Show The White Sands Missile Ranger - September 29, 72 German Air Force fires two Pershings Units of the Federal Republic of Germany Air Force successfully fired two Pershing missiles from Utah to New Mexico Monday as the fall series of off-range firings continued. The third and fourth rounds of the series were launched at Green River at 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. and impacted on White Sands Missile Range as programmed. They brought the series to its half-way point. The first two rounds were fired Sept. 18, also by West German units. The series will be concluded in October with three rounds to be fired by elements of the Europe-based Seventh U.S. Army and the eighth and final round to be fired by a battery of the 3rd Battalion, 9th Field Artillery, Fifth U.S. Army from Ft. Sill, Okla. The 3rd Battalion is providing support for all of the firings, along with White Sands Missile Range organizations, the Pershing Project Manager's Office of the U.S. Army Missile Command headquartered at Redstone Arsenal, Ala., and the U.S. Army Field Artillery Missile. The White Sands Missile Ranger - October 6, 1972 Two more Pershings will shoot Wednesday Two U.S. Army Pershing missiles will be fired from Green River, Utah, to White Sands Missile Range Wednesday, Oct. 11, as the fall series of annual service practice firings continues. The fifth and sixth rounds in the eight-round series will be fired by elements of the Seventh U.S. Army, temporarily assigned to the Utah Launch Complex from permanent duty stations in Europe. The firing operations will be supported by a Pershing unit from Ft. Sill, Okla., the 3rd Battalion, 9th Field Artillery, Fifth U.S. Army. Also on hand to support the missions are representatives of the U.S. Army Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Ala., and the major elements of White Sands Missile Range. White Sands officials announced that the Pershing safety area in Utah, between Green River and Dead Horse Point State Park, will be evacuated starting at 6 a.m. Wednesday. Also, road blocks will be set starting at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday on the Floy Wash, Crystal Geyser, Dubinky Well and Dead Horse Point access roads in the safety area. |
