Show TIMES INDEPENDENT, Moab. ~ closing of 1964 and advent of the new year has been marked by contractual changes and awards at the Green River missile complex. AVCO Corporation was announced last week as recipient of a contra.ct for operation and maintenance of the radar tracking system along the Green River to White Sands, New Mexico, missile range. They are to take over from present contractor, RCA on Monday, January 4. There will be, however, a transitory "coverover" period to help the exchange in personnel, it was learned Tuesday. AVCO is currently looking for thirty professional' and technical personnel to complete their staffing for the contract, the Utah Employment Service reports. RCA Service Company, it was announced Monday, has been awarded by the U. S. , Utah, 31 December ,196*1 Army, $335,000 for worft on "hard line" communications for Green River and Bland-ing. The office \ of Utah Senator Frank E. Moss said on Monday, that the money Is part of a $1,100.000 contract for commnn'cations installations supporting the Athena missile testing program. One of the manor contracts| for the Green River complex,'! the Test Complex Support Contract, was bid this month with bids being opened this l; week. Major Richard Schmidt,.^ officer in charge at Green f River, told The Times Independent Tuesday, that the a>vard of that contract could be made this week or within ten days. No figures on the contract have been released. Unofficial sources have named eight companies competing with the present con-, tractor, Bendix Field Engin-gineering, as bidders on the service contract.
