Show PAGE 2-WHITK SANDS MISSILE RANGER, APRIL 30, 1971 Pershings fired from Green River Four U.S. Army Pershing missiles were fired successfully Tuesday from Green River, Utah, to White Sands Missile Range, N.M., to open the spring 1971 series of off-range firings. The annual service practice rounds were launched by troop units of the Seventh U. S. Army, who are operational with defense forces in Europe. The firing units were operating under simulated tactical conditions. The two-stage artillery ballistic missiles were launched between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. .All four rounds impacted on White Sands Missile Range. Road blocks on secondary roads in the Green River safety area, southeast of the Utah Launch Complex at Green River, were lifted following the firing of the fourth missile. Evacuation of the safety area was terminated. The spring series will continue during the week of May 9 with four more rounds scheduled. Tuesday's firings were supported by the Army's 2nd Battalion, 44th Artillery, from Ft. Sill, Okla., and by major elements of White Sands Missile Range.
