Show UTAH HISTORIC SITE MARKER ORDER FORM National Register of Historic Places, Avenues Historic District Proposed marker text (shown in approximate size and format for the 4-3/4" x 6" marker): Wasatch Block Building This building was constructed in 1891 by the Wasatch Mercantile Company as organized by Abram Johnson and Erastus Kofford . It was probably altered substantially c.1898 after a fire . The building later housed the Star Theater and in 1926 the J.C. Penney store. The Wasatch Block building is an elaborate example of Victorian commercial architecture and contributes to the historic qualities of the Mt. Pleasant Historic District.
