Description www.skiarchives.org Spring 2003, No. 21 J. Willard Marriott Library, University of Utah Editor: Mike Korologos 2003 Ski Affair October 23rd at Little America You read it here first: The 2003 Ski Affair will be held October 23, 2003 Little America Hotel Grand Ballroom 6 p.m. You haven't even finished planting your garden and already you're getting notice of the 2003 Ski Affair. Well, we want you to plant the date and place on your calendar so you'll be certain to attend. Committees are abuzz selecting nominees for the coveted Ski History-Makers Award and the prestigious S.J. and J.E. Quinney Award for distinguished service to skiing in the Intermountain Region. Equally busy are the all-important silent auction and finance (table sponsor) committees. (Every great program needs financing, you know, and both groups welcome your assistance, a.k.a. auction items and table reservations.) The annual Ski Affair is a major community out-reach and fund-raising program for the J. Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah. It brings together more than 500 ski enthusiasts who reminisce, rekindle old friendships, and honor those who have contributed significantly to the sport. The reception/dinner/program/video galas raise much needed funding to perpetuate the Ski Archives. Proceeds are used by the library to locate, collect, catalog and make available for researchers, the public and the news media the collections, files, photos, oral history interviews, scrapbooks and other archival materials. Since its inception in 1989, the Ski Affair, coupled with private donations from individuals and corporations, has raised more than $500,000. But the task is renewed every year and an all-volunteer advisory board of 35 stages the Ski Affair to highlight the Ski Archives and those whose feats embellish the skiing image of the region. To help, reserve a table, make a contribution, offer archival items or get more information phone or e-mail Judy Jarrow, Program Manager/Special Collections, at the J. Willard Marriott Library, 801-581-3421, judy.jarrow@library.utah.edu and/or log on to www.skiarchives.org.
