The archives document the history of ski competition on local, national, and international levels; the founding of major resorts; snow safety and avalanche control; ski equipment; ski instruction; freestyle skiing; the 10th Mountain Division; back-country skiing; and virtually every facet of winter sports in Utah and the surrounding region. The archives are the repository for the Salt Lake Winter Olympics Games Bid Committee records and the records of the 2002 games themselves.

Description SKI HALL OF FAME - ON THE HORIZON Participants at the 1999 J. Willard Marriott Library Ski Archives Ski Affair Oct. 21, 1999 at the Little America Hotel and Tower in downtown Salt Lake City were the first to hear of a new entity aimed at preserving and perpetuating the ski history of the region: The establishment of the Intermountain Area Ski Hall of Fame. Mike Korologos, chairman of the Ski Archives advisory board, told the 550 diner-donors of the plan, the brainchild of Alan Engen, a Ski Archives charter member and president of the Alf Engen Museum Foundation. The "hall" will be housed at the Alf Engen Museum that will be part of the Joe Quinney Winter Sports Center, a $10 mil- lion facility planned for the Utah Winter Sports Park, four miles north of Park City. Ground for the privately funded structure was dedicated in August; groundbreaking is scheduled for April 2000 and completed prior to the Olympic Winter Games of 2002 that will use the building as a sub-center for Olympic media. It will open to the public in June 2000. Corey Engen, left, a member of the National Ski Hall of Fame, and his nephew, Alan Engen, a member of the Utah Sports Hall of Fame, discuss plans for Intermountain Ski Hall of Fame, announced at the 1999 Ski Affair ?tvIsORY - - Ski Archives Executive Board Mike Korologos - Chair Barbara Amidon - Vice Chair Dave Amidon - Past Chair John Raemer - Honorary Chair John Hoagland -Awards Chair Myrlene Korologos -Auction Chair Carol Lupus - Program Chair Clark Parkinson - Communication Chair Chris Raemer - Membership Chair Ski Archives Avisory Board Aalberg, John Archer, Robyn Bills, Steve Burton, Norm Gamer, Carol Guay, John Jones, Phil hwin, Marsha Keller, Lester Lorenz, Lou & Betty Lupus, stormy McPhie, Cal & Dodie Miller, Pat Petty, Ralph Shrontz, Duane & Jody Honorary Members Spencer, Bill Steffen, Dan & Connie Sullivan, Jim Warren, Jerry Warren, Larry Marriott Library Staff Arave, Joe Daly, Roger Michalak, Sarah Sussman, Adela Thompson, Greg Charter Members Bounous, Junior & Maxine Engen, Alan Gaddis, Jim Lange, Keith &Alice Melville, Marv Montgomery, Randy Peterson, Jan Young, Robert & Nancy Korologos announced that that Ski Archives advisory board member, Lester Keller, Park City, representing the U. Korologos noted that while there are halls of fame memorializing the contributions and accomplishments of athletes and others from the region in other sports, this hall of fame will be the first of its type for the Intermountain Area - Utah, Idaho and Wyoming.
