Show 6 . Utilization of Slag 6 .1 Example of Uses It is preferable to use detoxified slag rather than landfilling it. Uses for civil construction, building materials and refractory raw materials are currently understudy. Some applications have gone through the testing stages, and are being put to actual use. Table 6 lists the examples of water-crushed slag used for making water-permeable brick and pavement brick. Table 6 Examples of Slag Utilization No. Product Composition Process Property Permeable Brick I 90% Slag 10% Sinter Accelerator etc. Compression Molding and Sintering at approx. 1,000 °C. Bending Strength: 40kgf/cm2 Permeability Index: 3xl0"2cm/sec Decorative Permeable Brick Base: Same as above. Top layers: 50% Slag; 50% Accelerator and shard etc. Same as above Bending Strength: 40kgf/cm2 Permeability Index: 2.3xirj2cm/sec Pavement Brick 20% Slag 80% Pottery Gravel Compression Molding, and sintering at approx. 1,200°C. Water Absorption: < 4% Compression Strength: l,200kgf/m2 Concrete Slab 38% Slag; 27% Cement; 35% Sand. Water/Cement Ratio 45% Pouring Breaking Load: l,200kgf/m2 Compression Strength: 200kgf/cm2 Interlocking Block Base: 43% Slag; 41% Gravel ;10% Cement. Water/Cement Ratio : 30% Vibration Molding Bending Strength: >50kgf/cm2 The pavement bricks listed above, of which about 10,000 pieces were made, were installed on the walkway outside our new Head Office building as shown by the Photograph 1 below. Test installations of pavement materials were also m a d e for 200 meters of access roadway to the final disposal site. 5 0 % of Surface-melted Slag was mixed with commercially available roadbed material for substructure, and 2 5 % Slag was added for the top layer. 13 |
