T h e furnace is covered with water jacket, a n d has t w o ash hoppers and two ash pushers, one on each side. T h e hoppers store the residue supplied from the ash bins, a n d also seal the furnace interior from outside. T h e residue inside the hopper is fed into the furnace b y the pusher as needed, forming a n equilibrium slope. T h e surface begins to melt, a n d the molten slag flows d o w n along the slope. T h e roof of the furnace is built with a n angje so that it is roughly parallel to the ash slope in order to radiate heat efficiently. T h e burners are placed so that the flames are pointed to the surface. T h e melting takes place by the combustion heat of the burners as well as the radiant heat from the refractory materials of the furnace. The molten slag flows d o w n over the ash, exits via the slag tap, drops into the slag conveyor submerged in water. It then gets cooled rapidly, a n d turns into granular slag. T he combustion exhaust gas also exits furnace through the slag tap, preventing solidification of molten slag a n d metals there. 6 |
