Show 156 Chapter 15: The Treasure It took ten mules to carry our gold to Dawson City, the Bartlett Brothers, and two armed Mountie constables. Caribou, Tip, and I each rode a horse, bringing up the rear of the procession. We followed the Ridge Road along the hills, as the Bartlett Brothers advised, rather than passing through the creek claims. We estimated we were taking out about three hundred thousand dollars in dust and nuggets, although it was impossible to tell until we had it assayed at the new Canadian Bank of Commerce in Dawson City. We planned to sell most of it to the bank at the current rate of sixteen dollars an ounce. We also planned to keep a few bags for tossing around. We were not alone on the Ridge Road that July day.
