Show DOCENT COUNCIL REPORT 2010-2011 DOCENT MEETINGS: Steering Committee: Beginning in August, the Steering Committee met monthly to plan upcoming activities and to receive information regarding the museum and docent opportunities. ER Meetings: Three times during the year members of the Steering Committee met without the staff the share concerns and ideas. Docent Corps Meetings: Each month, beginning in September, all docents are encouraged to attend a meeting which includes a luncheon, information regarding upcoming events and responsibilities and an educational component. The September gathering was the Docent Retreat, at which time we went "off campus" to enjoy a day of socializing and education. We were treated to a program given by Brian Koch, a local artist, and painted our own landscapes. In October we enjoyed a special educational program, the subject of which was Natacha Rambova, presented by Heather Vaughan. A Holiday Luncheon was held in December. Prior to the luncheon, held at the Alta Club, we toured the Dave Erickson Gallery. In April we took a bus to Logan to see the Nora Eccles museum on the campus of USU. VOLUNTARY CONTINUING EDUCATION: Take Ten: The Tuesday Team initiated the "Take Ten" mini_ lectures by a docent regarding a piece of art currently on exhibition at UMFA. This would take place on a day when only one tour was scheduled. The idea was shared at an ER meeting, and the other daily teams took up the practice. Denver Symposium: FifteenJJMFA docents voluntarily paid their own way to attend a symposium entitled "Breaking of Engagement" at the Denver Museum of Art. This was done with the intention of improving their touring skills. Rules Docent Library and Book Nook: Specialized art history books are secured for the library, and the Book Nook was established to provide an opportunity to share novels and reference books relating to art. Rdund Robin: Three presentations were made at the May Docent Meeting regarding specific works of art at UMFA CONSERVATION FUND: Docents participate in several fund raising projects in order to add to the Ann Stewart Conservation Fund. To date approximately $46,000.00 has been spent or allocated to restore or conserve UMFA works of art. pARTners PROGRAM: Themes for this year's partnership with the Salt Lake School District were "Picturing America - Picturing the World" and "Materials in Art."
