Show 148 Afterword For many years I have been a wool merchant in Bremen. My trade has prospered, allowing me the time and money to pursue learning, for which I am grateful. Long ago the priest said that I must tell about what happened in Hamelin, and now I have written it down. Because my wife Hilde and I have no offspring, and as Hilde is now past the age to bear a child, I wish to leave my modest wealth for the building of four picture-windows of colored glass in the Market Church in Hamelin. I hope in this manner to atone for my sins. The one hundred and thirty children of Hamelin have never been found. Albert of Bremen June 26, 1314 |
