"Ah hereby christen ya'll the Sanitary Sack of Flour." The Sanitary Fund was the first of all the voluntary subscription funds and is the direct ancestor of the Red Cross. It was created to alleviate suffering in both the North and the South and was extremely popular and well supported on both sides, |
