Show United States Department of the Interior National Park Service 0MB No. 1024-0018, NPS Form National Register of Historic Places Continuation Sheet Section No. 10 Page 1 Evergreen Avenue Historic District, East Mill Creek Township, Salt Lake County, UT Boundary Description & Justification The resources of the Evergreen Avenue Historic District are within the boundary streets of 3300 South (north), 2300 East (west), 2700 East (east), and the Mill Creek (See District Map). The north boundary street, 3300 South, was one of the original east-west corridors through Salt Lake Valley marking a dividing line in the original pioneer plat known as the Big Field Survey. The street is currently a high-traffic, fourlane heavily-commercial corridor and only properties on the south side are included in the district. Recent commercial development at the east and west corners of 3300 South were excluded from the district. The west boundary 2300 East is also a high-traffic corridor, although only two lanes wide and primarily residential in character. Mostly properties on the east side the street are included in the district, with the exception of the Baldwin Radio Factory complex on the west side at 3474 S. 2300 East. The east boundary, 2700 East, is a straight residential street, except at Mill Creek, where it makes a giant "S" curve. Although there are a few historic residences on the east side of the street, only properties on the west side are included in the district. The southern boundary is the center line of the Mill Creek, which has never been culverted in this neighborhood and meanders east to west through the district. Bisecting the southern one-third of the district is Evergreen Avenue along which most of the higher profile, large-acreage resources are located. 7 7 The boundaries of the district are slightly smaller than the Reconnaissance Level Survey (RLS) conducted in the area in 2006. The RLS included a few historic resources on both sides 2300 and 2700 East, with the southern boundary at Neffs Lane south of the Mill Creek. |
