Show THE CHURCH REVIEW

CENTRAL CHRISTIAN.
The pastor has closed his five years of work in this city, and today he enters upon his sixth year. We hope it may prove the best and most prosperous of the series.
Arrangements have been perfected for the course of illustrated lectures. The following are the subjects and dates:
1. An Evening with Shakespeare, Friday, Oct 11, '95.
2. Fashions, Fancies, and Follies of Days Gone By, Nov. 1, '95.
3. The Life of John Wesley, Nov. 22, '95
4. Ben Hur, Dec. 13, '95.
5. Innocents Abroad, Jan. 3, '96.
6. The Life of Chas. H. Spurgeon, Jan. 24, '96.
These lectures will be illustrated by 311 fine pictures, many of them real works of art. The price of season tickets is exceedingly low, being $1.00 for adults and 50 cents for children under fifteen years of age. Tickets for a single lecture are 25 cents each for adults, and 10 cents for children under fifteen years of age.
The lecture on Shakespeare will be very interesting and instructive. The illustrations are copied from the fine Steel Engravings in the Imperial Shakespeare by permission of Messrs. Virten & Co., London, England. There are forty-six of these views, representing the Comedies, Historical Plays, Tragedies, and Sonnets, of the great play writer. Those who are going to enter the Literature Club this fall cannot afford to miss this entertainment. Friday, Oct. 11 is the date.
There were thirty-six Endeavorers out at their last prayer meeting. There was a good meeting, and a healthy interest. Not quite all are regular attendants at these services, but we hope the Lookout Committee will visit all of the absentees and remind them of their duty to Christ and the church.
We had expected to begin our meetings on next Sunday, but if the pastor goes to the National Convention at Dallas, Texas, as he hopes to do, it will be postponed until later in the year.
We were glad to have at our morning service on last Sunday the venerable Thomas Gunnell and his wife, of Buena Vista, Colo. The writer had not seen them since 1873, when he knew them as members of the old Christian Union church, Saline County, Missouri. Bro. G. is the same bright happy Christian of years ago. He has spent the past summer in Ogden with his son, Hon. V. C. Gunnell. We were sorry Bro. Gunnell's visit was so short, for he is one of the choicest spirits we have ever known.

FIRST CONGREGATIONAL.
The subject of the Christian Endeavor prayer meeting for this evening will be, "The Duty of Happiness." Miss Cora Clark will lead.
The monthly business meeting of the Christian Endeavor Society will be held tonight at fifteen minutes after six. A full attendance of the Society is desired. The habit of regular attendance at the business meetings makes the members intelligent concerning the work of the Society. It deepens their interest and makes the Society more efficient.
Prof. Kenaston led the weekly prayer meeting in the absence of Mr. Brown.
Miss Carrie Steward has changed her place of residence. She may now be found at 413 2d South.

BURLINGTON.
Miss Lamson was a welcome visitor last Sunday. She taught the same class she had when here three years ago.
Miss Baker left for the east Monday night. During her absence, Miss Froiseth will teach class one.
There is a marked increase in interest and in attendance at Sunday school since the new teachers came in.
The Social Committee has been found and is actually thinking about a social for the future-how near we do not know but do hope it will be very soon.
A goodly number of our young people attend the Sunday evening services at the First church regularly and we hope others will follow their example.
Maggie Axton is now secretary of the Sunday school. We believe that every member of the Axton family has had a term in this important office.

FIRST BAPTIST.
The church voted unanimously last Sunday morning to invite Rev. Wm. Barnes D. D. to labor with us a season commencing about December 1st. It brings a new responsibility to all of us. The rule for results is simply this: "Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap." If your friends are to be converted or you are to be strengthened you have a duty. Will you sow for a good harvest? Let us pray for the enlistment of the entire church.
By dint of persisting in the hardest kind of work, a few of our ladies have thoroughly renovated the church during the past. By turning the carpet and getting special covering for the aisles and vestibule, they hope to have put the necessity of a new carpet some distance into the future. Some of the gentlemen did heroic service in assisting the ladies.

BURLINGTON BREECH [BRANCH?].
Services will continue at the chapel every evening this week except Saturday. The interest so far has been continually increasing. Who will be the next to step over to the Lord's side? Will you?
Bro. Ingler's sweet songs on Wednesday evening brought to the meetings a new uplift. He will be with us again this week.

RIO GRAND BRANCH.
The entertainment last week was a great success, so that the Sunday school voted ten dollars into the chapel fund.
Several people have made subscriptions towards completing the chapel fund. Six more volunteer five dollar subscriptions are called for this week. How is it friend? Can you not offer to put a little more than you have already, into this beautiful chapel property? Ben Corum is the treasurer.

|
