"What it lacked in attendance it made up in enthusiasm. The meeting was opened with a song service led by Mr. Lister.
Dr. Mabry was the first speaker. He emphasized the importance of sympathy for the erring women, as well as for the erring men; deplored the double standard of morality as applied by society to men and women, and urged earnest effort for the rescue of degraded women.
Rev. Mr. Hawkes spoke earnest words of encouragement. Miss Wilma Burton spoke of her work among the harlots of this city, and demanded of society that a house be established to save the fallen. Rev. B. F. Clay emphasized the importance of doing work to prevent girls and women from entering upon a life of shame, and criticized severely some officers |
