WFS was founded by the New Mexico Watercolor Society, through the foresight and work of Dr. David Gale (1915- 1980). Today the WFS f includes 5,000 artists in 11 regional societies. WFS sponsors an annual juried exhibition which is hosted by a regional member society. This year's exhibition, hosted by the New Mexico Watercolor Society and exhibited at The Albuquerque Museum, was juried by Barbara Nechis, a member of the American Watercolor Society, and Christopher Schink, a member of the National Watercolor Society. Both jurors are nationally recognized, award winning artists. From 1,093 entries the jurors selected 104 paintings by 103 artists for this the 27th Annual Exhibition. Works on paper, including paper collage, were created with a variety of water-based media: gouache, ink, pencil, crayon, casein, tempera, acrylic, and transparent watercolor. A diversity of artistic expression is the result.
