Description |
Image of a Pennsylvania Dutch woven coverlet created in 1851 by C. Wiand. Also includes questionnaires describing the quilt completed by Anne Swindlehurst as part of the Utah Quilt Guild's documentation days held from 1988-1994. Quiltmaker was perhaps a professional weaver. It was a custom to present all Pennsylvania Dutch (German) Brides with a woven coverlet for their trousseau. Sophia Wenner married richard Rickert, they moved to Wheaton, Illinois, in 1855, and she died in 1864, leaving the coverlet to Emma Rickert Slick of Aurora, Illinois. Owner was grandchild of Emma, inherited it |
