Show CECIL THOMPSON #1 much trouble in Moab with alcoholism? CT: Well, I'd say there was some. But I remember when I was a small boy here, we had three saloons in Moab. And that was when there were only about five hundred people here. And I do recall, too, that as kids we were--well, we was scared of getting around saloons and doing anything that would get us mixed up with any kind of stuff that our parents didn't like. We had more respect for our parent then. And the other thing I think that has changed that is bad in my opinion is that there is less integrity with people now. When I was small up to about the time I was twenty-five years old, why, if John Jones said he was going to do something, why, he did it. And that isn't so any more. And this is about, I'd say, about borrowing money, or borrowing equipment, or loaning them anything, and their word was good. It was just one of those things when you, oh, some of them expect you to do something, why, they had no question about it. They would--people just knew you were going to do it. JD: When you speak about borrowing and loaning things, when the boom came on, of course, you pretty well said that you bought--well, you said you had sold your truck 1 ine. Did you ever happen to have the 1 6 |
