Show KITTY NAKAGAWA, MAR! EIJIMA, JEAN KARIYA #1 so bitter!" She said, "All I have to do is see Hannah, because she grew up as an unmannerly, untrained girl. ST: Well that's very, very-- ME: Well, she had swear words, and gestures that I never knew about until way after college. I think what you're saying typifies that age. Not necessarily your sister, but that age group. ME: They were just let run wild. We're influenced by environment. And also, I think you're aware we never sat with families. We always sat among our peers, so no discipline, no one to lead us to the proper way of eating, and so like the Blacks complained about the emasculation of black males of the U.S., you have a counterpart of that coming out of the camp experience. ST: I wouldn't be surprised if you weren't telling me about a boy because sometimes you assume that, well of course boys will be like that given that, not even the chance, but the fact that that was the circumstance they were in, but a girl you don't think of as trying to somehow come out uncultured. ME: I think that it is very important to be accepted by one's peers. ST: Oh yes. 32 |
