' Page 34 GC: Would there be any person that might be the, you know, when the people say, we'll talk about the NAACP, well, first 9f all was there a AACP in Ogden that you are aware of? RN: Yes. GC: Do you know who would be ••. · RN: Yes, Jim Gillespie. GC: Jim -Gillespie would be the person that everybody associat~s; now was there another Black organization in Ogden or was that the only one? RN: That's the o·nly one I know of. GC: Getting back to Frank Hamie, what brought. him into the programs, was he just trying to organize the forum, was that it? Did he handle anything? RN: Have to answer that two ways. One, he did try· to organize the forum and try to organize the people together. Secondly, I thin~ that the people respected him, no matter what they said about him, they respected him for having the God damn guts to go after what he wanted. A lot of what was in his way, he got it. GC: So people still respected him1 maybe that's why they knew him. RN: Right, right. GC: Or maybe, the community itself just wasn't ready to organize or |
