Show PAUL 0. HUBER J L 14,2000 WIN: In you school career did you participate in extra-curricular activities lik athletics, drama, and music? PAU: My sister took piano lessons, and one of my brothers had a few piano lessons. My sister was an excellent piano player. I took up the Hawaiian guitar. There was a traveling group that gave mass lessons in the neighborhood. I went one night and had a lesson. They never showed up again. WIN: That was the end of it? PAU: That was the end of my guitar. But other than that, no, I didn't. I went to the University and went into mechanical engineering. WIN: Let's see, when would this be? PAU: It was in 1932. WIN: So you were seventeen or eighteen with you went there? PAU: I graduated in 1936 and I was there four years, so it was 1932 when I went. I took ROTC at that time to help pay for my tuition. I used to go up on Saturdays to the Union Building where they usually had jobs for the students. If you got in line early enough, you could clean buildings. I did that, and I had a paper route on the Telegram Paper that was later purchased by the Tribune. I also delivered that for the first year. I also had my paper route through high school and had saved my money. In the summertime, I rode a bicycle from my home to Bountiful to pick fruit-cherries, peaches, or whatever was ripe. We also picked tomatoes. We could almost always get work that way. We would leave home about 4:30 or 5:00a.m., work in Bountiful for eight hours, and ride back home again. I also got a job working in a service station with 8 |
