| Abstract |
Wilson (b. 1922) grew up in Bountiful, Utah. He discusses his family and his schooling years. In his senior year of high school he joined the Utah National Guard and was inducted into federal service in March 1941. He trained in San Louis Obispo, California before being sent to the Hawaiian Islands on the SS Maui. Mr. Wilson served in the First Battalion, 145th Field Artillery Regiment, later changed to the 213th Field Artillery Battalion, 40th Infantry Division. He describes his service time on the Hawaiian Islands. His group moved from the Hawaiian Islands to New Britain, then on to the Philippians. Mr. Wilson was discharged in August 1945. Interviewed by Winston Erickson. 31 pages. |

Show I RAEL C. WIL 0 J 20 2 IW: At that time it was called South Davis Junior High chool. It i now w 11 it th junior high school that is next to Bountiful Park, there on Fourth North and Main tr t. We went to that one. Then of course, from there we went to Davis High chool. In Davis High School we rode the Bamberger Train ... WE: Oh you did? IW: ... to and from school. Sure, oh yes, for the first two years that I was in Davis. And in the third year they converted to busses, school busses. But the first two years, the school train was our mode of transportation to school. WE: That was up in Kaysville? IW: Kaysville. All the students, the high school students, went to Davis High School at that time, out of Davis County. WE: Okay. Now, in elementary school, did you find any subjects that interested you? Any teachers that you really liked? IW: No, not particularly. WE: Junior high school was the same? IW: Kind of the same. We graduated a little bit into athletics, which became an interest. I wasn't much of an athlete, but we still came into it. WE: Did you engage in any other extracurricular activities while you were going to school? Drama, singing, speech? IW: No. WE: Athletics was about it? IW: Yeah, just intramural athletics. WE: As you got into high school, then, did your interests broaden, or was it just ... 5 |
