He joined the Utah Air National Guard. His unit was activated and sent to Korea, where he flew fifty three combat missions. Show FLORE "N IL " N L ON L l 20 NAI: he s a brilliant little kid. When she was in the fourth grade he wa r ading i th grade work. he's one of those kinds. Two of my grandsons have graduated thi year from high school. They're both four-point-zip. BEC: Wow. NAI: One of them has a scholarship to University of Oregon and the other one has a letter from the ex-US medical general of the United States, whichever one it was, I can't recall. He's decided he's going to do a mission two years for the Mormon Church and then take advantage of his scholarships that are available right now, with a four point average. He hasn't given up on an education, I'll tell you that. But he's doing a two-year deal with the mission field before he goes. I think that's all right, two years. I've known several athletes who've done the same thing. They get scholarships to play football for big-time colleges and they do two years in the mission field and when they come back, they step right into the program and do better than anyone can ever expect. So I have the same expectations for this one grandson. He lives down in St. George. I don't know where he's going to school, but after he completes whatever, he'll know next month, in September I think, where he's going on a mission. But he'll do well, regardless, because he's motivated. He knows where he's going. So I don't want to interfere anymore than to applaud him. I applaud with one hand. It doesn't make all that much noise. BEC: Well, it sounds like you've got a great family. NAI: I've been very fortunate in that department also, I guess. BEC: Is there anything you wanted to say that I didn't ask you or anything else that you'd like to add before I turn the tapes off. You have some notes there. 52 |
