' So he tried to probe it with a pocketknife or something, trying to get that thing out. I don't know if he ruined it, but his hand just limped and they took him right out to a hospital ship and we never heard any more about him. His name was Wilson. But he was a smart guy and he was just wounded. That was the only one in our company that was hit, and that was an accident. Something funny happened. Another company that had been on islands before, knew how tough it could be, brought with them an ice cream freezer, one of these kind you get at the Dairy Freeze, Dairy Queen, you know, in an ice cream store? BBL: Yeah. CON: They bought the mix and the machine and as soon as they found a-I don't know if they had a generator or what-but the word got out that they had ice cream · down there and the guy says, "Never mind going, the line is so long!" But we went down and we got in line and they were serving the best ice cream I've ever tasted. So we'd get 45 |
