Show RO are unb li v bl · th y r just th b t b au h r c d u t th got stories of racing down the dirt roads when th y w r just dirt. other- it's been in the paper about-he s just got a r ally gr at t ry. BBL: Really? That's cool. JEA: Yeah. He's got great stories. th t n i h 1 ROB: Yeah, it's a lot of fun, motorcycles. It s still a lot of fun. Motorcycling right now is a little more hazardous than in my day. Now that the traffic's so heavy you've got to be pretty alert to keep from getting smeared. JEA: Yeah, those crotch rockets are just unbelievable; nineteen-year-olds on crotch rockets that are just a whole other story. ROB: Her husband has a big Harley; they ride all over hell. JEA: That's how we got into it, through his history. Though he forbade me to date anybody on a motorcycle, which is very wise (laughs). ROB: I'll tell you, daggone motorcycles, I had a daggone Indian Chief, it was a real goer. What had actually happened is it was a factory racer was sent out through the local Indian shop and an old gentleman named Roy Shafer owned this bike. It was called a Bonneville Indian Chief and it had a competition engine. So when Mr. Shafer passed away, Johnny Lelis and Frankie Plot are a couple of my associates, they cannibalized this Bonneville, they took the engine out and put a stock engine back in it, see? The business, who took over the business, they didn't know the difference between a Bonneville engine and a stock engine. Anyway, they put this Bonneville engine in a thirty-five frame and Johnny Lelis rode it. Well, John Lelis, he gets flacked and he kept running into things (laughs). So when I got out of the army, this Chief was all mashed to 39 |
