Show R. JOH PIZZELLO pril 2 rd 2002 But anyway to get back to the other, regular story here we tart d flying mi out of this base and our first ones were in Italy Romania and lower France. lo r n . Then, as you got better with the missions and your guns, and bombs, and knew what you were doing, then we went deeper in -like over the Alps, Austria, Greece Hungary, Bulgaria, and then Germany. France had some far away hits also. WIN: Did they ever send you to Ploesti deep in there? JOH: My group did all of that Ploesti thing before I was a member in August '43. WIN: Before you got on board? JOH: Yeah, before I was with them. But they did some Ploesti after. WIN: What group were you in? JOH: I was in the 376th Bomb Group and the 51 5th Squadron. WIN: Is that 15th Air Force? JOH: It was the 151 \ but when we first went over and stayed in Amphitiville(?) and after Casablanca, this was the 12th Air Force. It was mediums because it was no heavy bomber set-up yet. Eventually, they made the 151 h and then we were part of it, and then Italy surrendered, we went over. And we set up base at a town near Leece. Leece was a bigger city, but the town we were in was San Pancrazzio, Italy. And the biggest city near it would be Bari, Italy. Southern coast, Adriatic Sea. WIN: On the east side. JOH: Yeah. 17 |
