Show Becky Lloyd American West Center University of Utah 1901 East South Campus Drive, Rm 1023 Salt Lake City, Utah 84112 Dear Becky, 4034 Mercury Drzve Salt Lake City, Ut. 84124 June 28, 2004 Please forgive me for being so long in returning your wonderful compilation of my military service and life before and after. It brought back many fond memories of my younger days. I marvel that you so aptly brought out all the different facets of my life and especially; my time in the Navy. I forgot to tell you how proud I am that I was allowed to serve and learned so much from that service. One thing that I would like to tell you is that I started school under the G. I. Bill and at that time had the care of my oldest son Bruce who was my husband's child from his first marriage. I attended school during the day, the year around for about 2 years. At that time I became pregnant with my second child, and when I was six months along, I had to stop because of complications. She was hom in May, 1951. I stayed home until September, 1951, and then resumed my education. at night school. I went to night school for three more years including sunmmers. This was really quite an accomplishment when you consider that I had two children and my husband had started a business. I was the accountant for all of his operations. I received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. I was the only woman receiving this degree and there were from 40 to 60 men in all of my classes during this time. I graduated in June, 1954. Then we added 4 more children to our family. How grateful I am for my Navy service that allowed me to achieve this very important part of my life. It has shown our children how very important it is to complete a college education. It has become important to our grandchildren, too. Thank you Becky, for allowing me to be part of this wonderful history that you have documented. You should receive a medal for your valor and dedication. With Sincere Appreciation, . ~~/2-7/7r~.d/ |
