Show DEAN WINTER 17 2001 he was a Raider. So I thought I could get some special treatment y u kn . ut it didn't happen. Then I went over to see him another time. I just wanted to talk t him and w called him Stinky Davis while he was in the Raiders. And I says to the firsts rg ant, I want to speak to Stinky Davis (laughs). No, that was the wrong thing to say. DON: He was in a wheelchair. DEA: They took me in to see him, you know, and I talked to him for about an hour, then they took me back out and they had a court-martial on me and I had to do extra duty in a wheelchair (laughs). Wash windows and stuff like that around (laughs). BEC: Really? DON: This is true. BEC: Because you called him Stinky Davis? DEA: Because I called him Stinky Davis. He didn't care, but the first sergeant was the one that was- DON: Oh, he talked to him for an hour. In fact, he's the one that asked him, "I'd like to go home." He said, "Sure." DEA: In fact, one time when I was in Camp Pendleton, California, getting trained to go to Iwo Jima, I spotted a man sitting there who was a general. And he was my first squad leader, first platoon leader. His name was Maj. General O.F. Peatross. And (laughs) I went over to him and I spit in my hand and polished his star, you know. DON: A general. In front of about 250 men. DEA: I said, "Pete, where in the hell did you get that?" (laughs) And he said, "I just happened to get it." He says, "I think I earned it." I said, "If anybody did you sure did." 36 |
