| Abstract |
Curtis (b. 1924) grew up in Salt Lake City, where his father operated a coal company in the Sugarhouse area. He attended the University of Utah and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944. He applied for dental training, which he received at the University of Kansas City. After receiving his degree he was given the option of choosing to serve in the Army or the Navy. He chose the Navy and was sent to Corpus Christi. He was transferred to Norfolk, Virginia, to a repair ship where he provided dental services to men aboard the ships his shipmates were repairing. He was discharged in 1948. 33 pages. |

LEG: What was I going to tell you? BEC: You were talking about your brother making a phone call. LEG: Okay, he made a phone call to me. He said,' You and Patty are coming out to set up practice?" I said, "That's right." He said, "You're going to need a place to live." I said, "That's right." He said, "You need to buy my house." I said, "Jess, I've got twenty-five cents total in my pocket." He said, "Let me tell you the terms." It was a house in Highland Park. Do you know where Highland Park is? BEC: Is it east of Highland High School? LEG: No, let's go out to Highland Drive and Stratford A venue south of Sugarhouse. BEC: Oh, Okay. LEG: He said, "It's nothing down and the payments are seventy-one a month." I said, "I'll buy it." So I paid the first seventy-one and we stayed there about three years and started our practice in Sugarhouse. My brother-in-law called me, who was in real estate. He said, "I just listed a home you ought to buy." I said, "Well, you've got me wrong. I don't have any money." He said, "Well, it's a lady and her husband died. She's a widow. She wants nothing down but the payments are a hundred and fifty a month." By then, I could afford a hundred and fifty a month. So I said, "I'll do it." So I sent in my very first month's payment for a hundred and fifty dollars. Now listen carefully, I got back a receipt and one hundred and forty two of the one hundred fifty went to interest and eight dollars was for principal.
