| Abstract |
B. Ward Turner (b. 1922) was raised in Lyman, Utah. He was drafted into the Army in May of 1943. As a member of the 315th Ordnance MAM Company, he landed on Utah Beach several days after D-Day. He was present at the liberation of Buchenwald concentration camp, and received five Bronze Stars before being discharged in December 1945. 54 pages. |

Show B. Ward Turner Jaoua 17 20 2 WAR: WIN: WAR: Yeah. Where did they have you stationed after the war? Did they leave you ther ? Well, they sent us back to Numberg. We were just down in Numberg. It was interesting, my brother was in the same kind of outfit. I was telling you about it. They were in Langsburg. That's just northwest of there. WIN: Did you ever find out that he was there, or .. ? WAR: Yeah, he found out where my company was, and he came over and spent the night with me. In fact, when I was England, my brother just older than me was a crew chief on the B17's. So while we were in Oxford, I got a jeep and found out his base, and went down and spent the day with him. So I got to see two of my brothers over there. WIN: WAR: WIN: WAR: WIN: Did they all survive the war? Oh yes. Yeah. Whew. We were lucky. Yeah, crew chiefs on B17's, uh ... WAR: Yeah, they had their hands full coming in with those planes shot up. Occasionally they'd have to fly over the mainland to prepare the B 17's and fly them back. WIN: So you got to Landshut as the war ended, then they moved you back to Nurnberg. What were your duties during the occupation? Just keeping the ... WAR: Well, they were trying to determine whether they wanted our company to stay in as occupation. At that time, they had a plan to set up a depot down in Marseille, France. So they 38 |
