| Abstract |
Melvin S. Larsen (b. 1922) details his genealogy and family history. His father served as a Mission President in Denmark for the LDS Church and Larsen received his primary education in Danish schools. He attended West High in Salt Lake City and was in ROTC before being drafted into the army. He was assigned to the 87th Infantry Division and was part of the D-Day invasion. He fought in Belgium, France, Germany, and Czechoslovakia. He received five Purple Hearts and returned to the United States in 1945. 29 pages. |

TIDS IS THE PROJECT "SAVIN THE LEGACY: AN ORAL HISTORY OF UTAH'S WORLD WAR II VETERAN " TAPE No. 724 BEC: This is an interview with Melvin S. Larsen at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah. Today's date is May 7, 2005. This is part of the "Saving the Legacy Project". My name is Becky Lloyd. Mel, let's start with when and where you were born. MEL: I was born in Ogden, Utah, September 13, 1922. BEC: What was your father doing for employment at the time you were born? MEL: At the time I was born, he'd just come back from Denmark as (LDS Church) Mission President over there. The whole family went over, so we came back to Ogden. He was employed in Ogden with Utah Power and Light in the office. BEC: So you were born after they returned from their mission? MEL: Yes. BEC: I see. Tell me your parents' names. Who were they? MEL: My father was Sir Holger Marius Larsen. BEC: Holger? MEL: H-0-L-G-E-R BEC: Oh, okay. (Mel shows picture) Oh, look at that. Is that your mother? MEL: No, that's President McKay's wife and President McKay. BEC: Yes, I recognized President McKay, but not his wife. So this is your father here? MEL: Yes. BEC: What was this occasion? |
