Show nothing, not even fluids, on his stomach. Dr. Ma did a gastroenterostomy, with a beautiful result and now see him, as he returned a few weeks ago, to express his gratitude for his resurrection from the dead. He weighs one hundred fifty pounds ! Should any of the friends at home who contribute to the support of the Hospital ever doubt the gratitude of the Chinese, let him remember Mr. Wu. And let him call to mind the family of the patient, who on the anniversary of the father's recovery in the Hospital, came early that morning with several attendants and burned incense at the Hospital gate ! A material expression of the incense of a grateful heart! The family had not then learned that thanks belong to Gcd, not to men. Ninety-two babies were born in the Hospital during the year. There were more abnormal cases among them than usual, several of them being cases that would have died, had there been no Hospital here. The need and demand for a separate maternity ward and a real nursery are growing stronger and more insistent. Last Spring the Hospital cooperated in a Better Baby Contest, at the request of the local Board of Education; a part of the Government's Five Year Plan for Children. All the physical examinations were done at the Hospital, and we were happy to discover that one of the two who took first prize was a former Hospital baby, later saved from starvation by Hospital care.
