Verily, they are energetic people. <br><br> A Pointer From Westminster. <br> The Westminster Society at its last election adopted a method of electing officers which, in effectiveness and successful results, has never been surpassed by any method ever tried by the society. Knowing how unsatisfactory prevailing methods are, we here present an outline of the plan followed, hoping it may fill a long felt want. <br> The president and recording secretary, being the most important officers, were elected by informal and formal ballots. These two officers then selected the other members of the executive committee, thus securing a committee willing to cooperate with them in forwarding the work of the society. The chairmen chose their committee insuring the same harmony in the committees as in the executive committee. The completed list of officers and committees is then submitted to the society for ratification. The advantages of this method are that it avoids the tediousness of electing the entire corps of officers by ballot. <br> There is no danger of creating hard feelings as in the "viva voce" method, and there is no necessity for appointing a nominating committee whose duties are seldom appreciated and whose selections are often unsatisfactory. w. P. H. <br><br> IN THE SERVICE OF THE DEVIL. <br> -How actively men are engaged in the service of the devil, and what astonishingly poor pay they get! If their employers do not give them wages that are just compensations for their work they will strike. But vast multitudes work for the devil, whose pay is death, and yet they toil on. Oh! if men would treat that devil as they do their employers, and strike, refuse to work for him any more, earth would sing her hallelujahs. - Philadelphia Methodist. <br><br> NOT UNDERSTANDING HIM.-No one understands God who is not keeping His commandments. God does not come into such close and intimate relations to the disobedient that He can be understood by them. Fellowship in spirit and character is an indispensable condition of real acquaintance. The pure in heart and only they shall see God. Spencer & Lynch Co. 124 Main Street. <br><br> Three Crown Spices are stronger and better than the imported, because they are ground to order every day. <br><br> How Teeth are Filled Without Pain. <br> This fact was thoroughly demonstrated Thursday last in Dr. Tillman's dental parlors, before a number of professional and business men of this city. One of the party volunteered to be the subject. The teeth to be filled were badly decayed and very sensitive. The doctor took a small sheet of very thin rubber and in this sheet was cut two little holes (or a hole for each tooth to be filled). This was slipped over the teeth and tied with a silk thread to hold it in place. The teeth were cleansed with a certain preparation, then thoroughly dried, then another application was made. They all held their breath when the doctor started the little drill by which the cavities are cleansed and shaped to retain the filling, but to the great astonishment of the entire party, the work was done without a murmur. Their verdict was "seeing is believing," and as most of them have been subjects of the dental chair before, they expressed themselves freely that they no longer held the dental chair as a seat of pain. They highly congratulated the doctor on his new method of filling teeth. <br> SOME TESTIMONIALS. <br> "I wish to state that I had five teeth filled with gold by Dr. Tillman.
