THE CHURCH REVIEW <br><br> Epworth League Dep't. <br><br> FIRST M. E. LEAGUE NOTES. <br> Epworth League topic for today, "The forty days after the resurrection." Acts 1:1-26; 1 Cor. 15:4-8 Pres. Eaton, who leads the meeting this evening will begin promptly at half past six o'clock. Let everybody be there and be prepared to help make the meeting even more of a "hummer" than usual. <br> Monday evening, Epworth League business meeting. Put this down on your program for the coming week, and be sure that you keep your appointment, because there will be a fine literary program, with some music, besides the business. And if those young folks who are about the age of forty don't come along, they need not be surprised if the sweet sixteen crowd gets away with all the offices. <br> The committee has nominated the best material in the League for the different offices, and it will not be the committee's fault if the next cabinet is not an excellent one. By the way, that committee has a surprise in store for you tomorrow night. <br> Our literary table is on the highway to success; there is no doubt about that. Quite a number of our members are taking advantage of this opportunity to read something new,-to them at least. <br> Salt Lake City. <br><br> ILIFF LEAGUE NOTES. <br> The treasurer has moved downtown. We hope that all members of the League will take pains to find out where he is, and then surprise him by all paying up their dues up to date. Cor. B and First. <br> Salt Lake City. <br><br> Second M. E. League Notes. <br> Our pastor was with us last Sunday evening and we had a glorious time. The people came in promptly and all seemed to be in the spirit. In fact the meeting was so lively the choir had no opportunity to render their special music. Our young people are coming out grandly on the Lord's side. Bro. Jayne gave the Epworth choir such a hearty greeting that we are not apt to forget it soon. Let us endeavor always to merit his appreciation. <br> That "Number Social" was a success socially, but not financially. We heard some of our members had aged so rapidly as to feel that they were too old for such gatherings. Those present enjoyed it thoroughly. <br> Miss May Davis will lead the meeting tonight, 6:45. <br> Salt Lake City. <br><br> SELF - BETTERMENT.--One motive for making gifts to Christ is obligation, another is gratitude, and still another is self-betterment. All who loyally give themselves to Christ experimentally realize that 'it is more blessed to give than to receive,' Consecrating to his service body and soul, and spirit, being no longer conformed to this world, but transformed by the renewing of our minds, we daily 'prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.' Loyalty to him necessitates utter denial of self and persistent cross-bearing, but it is rewarded even here by 'manifold more, and in the world to come life everlasting.' Loyalty to Him necessitates the steadfast practice of His precepts. His law is treasured in the heart, and His will is wrought out faithfully. But 'the law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the statues of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; and in keeping them there is a great reward.'--Evangelist. <br><br> CORRINNE, METHODIST. <br> Judging from the number who attend evening and morning service it is evident that they prefer the evening hour, consequently Brigham City will have the morning service. <br> An effort will be made to raise money to purchase new lights. <br> Sunday the primary class was fully one-third larger than usual. The number of pupils could be larger; but cannot have regular teachers. It is nothing unusual for one teacher to have the pupils from two classes. <br> The Industrial Class will give their entertainment Wednesday evening, Oct. 9th. <br> The regular meeting of the W. H. M. S. will beat the parsonage, October 10th. <br> Sister Hill and baby have been quite ill, but are slowly improving. <br><br> Logan, Methodist. <br> The snow storm of over a week ago did great damage in Logan and the Cache Valley. <br> [Even] though it was cold the [Sunday] following the snow, the congregation at the M. E. church was good both morning and evening. <br> The morning congregation at Logan is not usually very large, however last Sunday there was a fair "turnout." In the evening the house was full, being mostly students, who listened attentively to the discourse. <br> Mrs. Cates was at the organ Sunday, and is a great help in that line of church work, but we are in great need of more singers. Who will help us? <br> Mrs. Telford was in Logan last week, and talked to a small company in the Presbyterian church on Friday night. There ought to be more interest in the temperance work. <br> Bro. Snowden, who died in Ogden last week, was a member of the M. E. church at Logan. He died in Christian faith.<br><br>
