The Secretary of War has the honor to transmit to the House of Eepresentatives, in compliance with House resolution of the 6th instant, a copy of a report and map of a reconnaissance in the Ute country, made in 1873 by Lieut. SIR: In compliance with the reference to this office of a resolution of the House of Eepresentatives of March 6,1874,1 Tiave the honor to transmit herewith a copy of a report and of accompanying map of the reconuaissance in the Ute country, made during the season of 1873 by Lieut. E. H. Euffner, Corps of Engineers, chief engineer of the Department of the Missouri, under the orders of Brig. Gen. John Pope, commanding that department. The map has been drawn upon stone, and, should Congress order its publication, transfers can readily be prepared and furnished the Congressional Printer.
