Show Message #~7, Page 3 Our six-year-old, Matthew (who, earlier this year, on his way back from school, was left at a Trading Post far out in the wilderness and had to wait all night for his mother, who sought him in a different area) has had a hard summer. His shunt did not work right, with the usual high temperature and distress. He was flown out to a hospital for an operation. He developed meningitis, but finally recovered and is back home. He is impatient to get "back to Michael's" - st Michael's Special Education School run by the Roman Catholic Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament - where he gets excellent loving care and training. The snapshot on the right shows Matthew and three of his seven siblings and their mother, Jessie. Matthew is in the striped jersey, looking over his shoulder at the camera. AND NOW ' JOAN CHIMES IN -(LIKE A OOtli) Hello there ••• Well, well, well, this II an exciting year for Hat Rock Valley Retreat Center - celebration after celebration. July 10th saw us in Salt Lake City attending the Utah State Medical Association Dinner, where Father Liebler received this year's Award of Merit, "For long dedicated services devoted to providing improved health services to the Navajo Indian community of Utah." That's what it says on the beautiful plaque Father received, and which now decorates a wall of our living-room. We collected Catherine Pickett in Salt Lake, and took her along with us to the dinner. We were happy that Bishop Charles was present; he gave the invocation and blessing. We "Hat-Rockers" felt very excited and honored to be seated near the "VIP" table, and hear all the lovely things being said about Father Liebler. His own acceptance speech, which included many delightful reminiscences of times past, was a delight to everyone. There must have been around 200 people at the dinner, and everyone was so very warm and loving that the day was certainly one for our memory booksl The next celebration is to take place in Florida, where . Father goes for two weeks on September 3rd to join his family in celebrating his 60th wedding anniversaryl Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Brother Juniper, Helen and I are going to be busily preparing for the grand celebration October 3/4 of Father's 60th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood (see page 1). Father's already told you about it, but he didn't mention the "little lists" that Helen and I are distractedly makingl After the 5:30 p.m. votive mass of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Eternal High Priest, we are planning a supper of Navajo-style tacos (lists of Navajo ladies to make the fry breadl ), chili (order hamburger in time: friend Bailey Thompson will provide beans, sauce, etc. and make it ahead of time - Bailey makes super chilil), order tomatoes, lettuce and cheese, scrounge around for enough big bowls to hold it all (to say nothing of rounding up cans of soft drinks, coffee and cake, serving tables, plates, napkins, hot and cold cups, plastic knives, forks, spoons') Helen and I are starting to say to each other, "What about ••••• 1" "Is ••••• on the list 7" "Do we know who's going to make the Navajo bread?" "We can set up tables, if we have any, |
