Irrigating "e traversed a considerable part of tho island - about the Island. 1200 acres in extent - formed by two arms of the Duchesne River, and discussed tho advisability of various plans suggested for making beneficial use of the land constituting it. I suggested that a flume be constructed across the Duchesne Siver at the head of tha island and the natural grasses already growing on the island be irrigated, "beneficial use" thus being made of the water for these allotments. Superintendent Kneale was so impressed with the idea - which se«med to ma obvious - that he proposes to adopt it, and thus "save the water" easily and inexpensively for this land. .7e then drove to the Tokanna Jnca Sam land, a sal3 on which haa been pending intthe Indian Office for practically a year. Portions of this land are covered with 3and dunes of such size that they cculd not be subdued at an expense of from $100.00 to $500.00 per acre. A part of it Is surfaced with rocfe. bed3 that look like abandoned stono quarries. Several' Sand Cur.es acres are covered with a heavy growth of underbrush and trees, and ..Hock 9ed3. which could be removed and the ground subdued, only at an expense, possibly, of -J25.00 to £35.00 por acre.
