Show Docket 327 ( 11 Boxes) This part of the suit is about under valuation of mineral lands. There are many documents about mining, minerals extracted. The history of the band is not any where as detailed as that presented in 44 & 45. Later in the boxes there are detailed forest histories by Milton R. Scott. This report and others focus on the trees in the forest and mostly on cutting them. The appraisal is in Box - 56- 79 VI. It was written by Gerald T. Hart of Denver, Colorado. Unlike the Michigan reports, this one does not deal with the value of the resources on the land to the Indians. Instead, it focus on the resources that Non- Indians could develop, the increases in population that made that development possible. There is nothing here to help. Docket 349 ( 1 Box) In this suit the Uncompahgre band is seeking damages for the reservation that was taken from them. I looked through the complaint carefully. There is no mention of land of religious or other cultural significance being taken. This documentation speaks of the dollar value of the acres. The Utes are only one part of this docket. The commission was also hearing the claims of the people of Ft. Berthold. 22 |
