Show Remodeling for a Learning Resource Center is n ow nearing completion. Today's University of Utah Libraries is a giant compared to the 2,000-volume library of a century ago. It remains a giant when contrasted with other U.S. institutions of higher education, for it n o w ranks 47th in total holdings. Nevertheless, there are distinct problems, so that w e must try ever harder to stay in the same place. Increasing requirements to serve other than just the campus community, to keep pace with the vast flood of printed material n o w issuing from the world's presses, finding adequate space to house this increase, and to take advantage of new media and computer systems designed to ease the task of educators and the time-consuming effort of repetitive library tasks, requires a dedicated and innovative staff, supported with adequate finances, the University of Utah Libraries is meeting that challenge with the assistance of a concerned University administration, far-sighted State Legislators and Board of Regents, and a community that realizes the value of a superior education. |
