Show Though from this it would seem that there is a shortage of $8,100 at the date of writing, there is reason and hope for excepting the following from the Mission Boards: - From American Board for Hospital Equipment $ 1,000 From Woman's Board of Interior, for Hospital Equipment - ^0 00 From Woman's Board of Interior, for Nurses Training School j QQQ While we cannot count on the above $ 3,000 till it is actually promised, we may consider that we are short $5,100. Compared to the full amount that is being invested, this seems a small portion. We certainly will not go into debt, and therefore will go as far as we can with the funds in hand. Since the building is going on, and there is a man on the ground to see to the details, it would seem far the best plan, if possible, to carry out the whole scheme. There is no chance, humanly speaking, that it can be done later at a Jess cost than now. We thus provide for 100 patients, at an average housing cost of $246 per patient. Consult any hospital authorities at home, and they will tell you that is a ridiculously low if not impossible figure. No figure less than the $24,600 could provide at all adequately for the needs. Baths, sewage, good provision for flowing water, etc. (of the plainest kind) are necessities in a hospital, - if it is to be really a hospital. About 50 patients can be provided for with the money in hand, but with the shortage added we can care for 100 ( 9 ) |
