Description The purpose of this action research project was to address how research-based interventions facilitate change of externalizing behavioral student challenges in the classroom. Data in the form of behavioral referrals, personal journaling and teacher interviews were collected as evidence of the impact of behavioral intervention during a three-month period in a Title 1, urban, elementary school as the project setting. A social skills instructional curriculum, Boys Town Educational model, along with the Check in Check Out (CICO) program were used to teach positive behavioral strategies. Functional Behavioral Assessments were used to guide intervention differentiation. Though ten students participated in the Behavior Intervention, four case study students' behavior were analyzed for specific data. Finding the function of behavior is needed to identify specific interventions for students. CICO can help in aiding responsible behavior for mild/moderate students. Social skills instruction is essential in helping students modify their behavior.
