Description Dr Velick was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1913. Dr received his B.S. from Detroit City College in 1935. Dr Velick earned both his M.S. (1936) and his Ph.D. (1938) from the University of Michigan. Dr Velick was a Rockefeller Foundation Fellow at Johns Hopkins University (1939-1940) and an International Cancer Research Foundation Fellow at Yale University (1941-1945). Dr Velick was Assistant Professor of Biological Chemistry at the School of Medicine at Washington University, St Louis from 1945-1964. Dr Velick came to the University in 1964 as Professor and Chair of the Department of Biological Chemistry. Dr Velick retired as Chair in 1978. Dr Velick received the University's Distinguished Research Award in 1976 for his work in protein biophysics and was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1981. Upon his retirement in 1988, Dr Velick became Professor Emeritus of Biological Chemistry. Dr Velick died in 2007.
