Show THE UTAH PIONEER JUBILEE. Immediately after their appointment the Commission shall organize by the appointment of a Chairman and Secretary from their number. The Commission shall control and conduct such celebration. "They shall fix the time and place for holding such celebration, which time shall include the 24th day of July. 1897. The Commission is empowered to raise funds to meet necessary expenses of such celebration, by public subscription, and in such other manner as may be determined upon. They shall serve without compensation. "2. There is hereby appropriated the sum of Five Thousand Dollars to defray the expenses of the said Commission and to aid in the said celebration, said amount to be drawn from the State Treasury upon warrants upon the State Auditor, when ordered by the State Board of Examiners. PROVIDED, that if in the judgment of said Commission it shall be deemed inadvisable to hold said celebration, the moneys hereby appropriated and the whole thereof, be turned over to the Treasurer of the Deseret Agricultural and Manufacturing Society, to aid Public opinion having been thoroughly awakened to the propriety of such a celebration, the Legislature of 1897, acting under the impetus of another zealous reminder from the Executive, supplemented the preceding resolution with one more liberal and more in harmony with the fully developed sentiment of the entire State. The main portion of this supplemental joint resolution is here appended: "Section 1. The Governor is hereby directed to appoint five persons as additional members of the Semi-Centennial Commission heretofore appointed by him, under the provisions of Chapter C. of the Laws of Utah, 1896. "Section 2. The Semi-Centennial Commission, as enlarged under the provisions of Section J of this resolution, shall fix the time and place for holding such celebration during all the week, commencing on the 19 th day of July, 1897, and ending on the 24th day of July, 1897. PROVIDED, that the celebration shall be held on one of said days in Provo City, Utah County, and on another of said days in Ogden City, Weber County. |
