Show 6 THE UTAH SEMI-CENTENNIAL COMMISSION. • • • IN the exercise of the powers conferred upon him by the Legislature, the Governor appointed and commissioned, under date of November 20. 1896. the following named citizens as members of the Utah Semi-Centennial Commission: Spencer Clawson, Salt Lake City, Mrs. George Y. Wallace, Salt Lake City, Edward F. Colborn, Salt Lake City, Mrs. A. W. McCune, Salt Lake City, Horace G. Whitney, Salt Lake City, E. G. Rognon, Salt Lake City, C. R. Savage, Salt Lake City, Joseph Stanford, Ogden, Mrs. R. C. Easton, Logan, John R. Murdock, Beaver. Of these Mrs. McCune and Messrs. Savage and Stanford resigned February 11, 1897, when the following appointments were made to fill the vacancies: William B. Preston, Salt Lake City, H. H. Spencer, Ogden, Reed Smoot, Provo. Judge Elias A. Smith, of Salt Lake City, took the place of Hon. John R. Murdock, who had failed to qualify. Under date of March 25, 1897, the Governor appointed and commissioned the five additional members of the Commission, namely: Jacob Moritz, Miss Cora Hooper, William A. Nelden, Miss Emily Katz; John D. Spencer, (All of Salt Lake City.) On the day of the original appointments-November 20, 1896-the Commission met and organized by electing the following officers: Spencer Clawson, . • : Chairman E. G. Rognon, .... Secretary Inez C.
