Show COLLEGIATE LIFE<br><br> ATHLETICS<br> When the Collegiate moves to its new location it will be especially fortunate in the opportunities for athletic sports; its athletic field adjoining the buildings will contain ample space for football, baseball and basket ball fields and a tennis court has already been made. <br><br> FOOTBALL. <br> Football season opened with a fair showing for a team, but very soon same of the players began to show a decided laziness, and it was not long before the captain and coach had a very hard time in getting eleven men out to practice. Most of the men that were out showed a very good spirit and practiced hard, had we had a little more material we would have had a very good team. <br> The first game was played at Bingham, where the Corn and Blue defeated the Bingham huskies to the tune of 16 to 5. The team was accompanied by a large band of loyal school rooters, whose songs and cheers put more spirit into the hearts of the players and helped to make the first game away from home a victory. The game was very rough and hotly contested, and evidence of dirty playing was seen throughout the game. <br> The next game was with the Juniors of High School. In this game the Corn and Blue was defeated by a score of 16 to 5. <br> The third game was with the Seniors of the same school and we were again defeated by 5 to 0. The last and best game of the season was at Park City, where the Corn and Blue was defeated by 5 to 0. The team was suffering from stage-fright and while it was trying to recover, the Park City team got the ball and made a touch down during the first three minutes of the game. After that we played in their territory most of the game. Once we were within five yards of their goal, when Park City recovered the ball on a forward pass and took it to the center of the field once more. It was a swift and hotly contested clean game. <br> Allen received the ball on the kickoff and was downed on twenty-five yard line. Park City got the ball on a forward pass; a long end run by Woods of Park City, put the ball on our five-yard line, where it was bucked over. On the next kick-off the Collegiate strengthened up and recovered from its stagefright. We kept the ball in Park City's territory most of the time for the next three quarters. <br> At the beginning of the fourth quarter the ball was put in play at the center of the field; from here the Collegiate brought it up to the twenty-yard line on straight bucks. A fake drop kick, a forward pass by Allen to Davis, put the ball on Park City's five- yard line. Here Park City got the ball on a forward pass, and our only chance to score was lost. Wood made some good long end runs, while Hutchins and Allen were there on hitting the line; in fact, the whole team played the game of the season. <br> Johnson, who was laid out in the first quarter, played a good guard; Park City's hack field was very fast and they were there on the interference. Woods, for Park City, played a star game at half throughout the game. We received royal treatment at the hands of the Miners, and Johns of Collegiate refereed impartially; as he was well acquainted with the new rules there was no complaint from either side. <br> Football line-up: R. Don't fall in love with a rich, girl at first sight. You may be suspected of false pretence. Another new student a Junior, from Park City High School is added to C. I. roll, Milo Webb. <br><br> |
