This project is a study of storytelling and medium in journalism. Stories can be a modern form of studying the humanities. In an accelerating world, studying the humanities teaches people to slow down and connect with other humans around them. While it can seem contradicting to slow down through journalism, stories such as the ones in this project, allow for just that. By reading, watching, or listening to media that powerfully tells an individual's very human experience, the consumer's mind can be opened up to real connections with people that only studying humanities allows. In journalism today, there are various media utilized, but often without the realization that each medium includes its own message. For this project, I interviewed five individuals about significant moments in their lives. Each story was shaped to fit a different medium. These five media are podcasting, video, written story, social media, and photojournalism. Each medium conveys its own message along with that of the individual's. The differences in the media and how they relate to each story will be discussed, in addition to how well the story became literature for the humanities through its specific medium. |
