Description | The political history of Utah during the period from 1900 to 1920 has been largely ignored by historians. Yet during that period occurred some of the most exciting political events of Utah's unique story. The opening decades of the twentieth century saw the rise to power of Senator Reed Smoot, whom many would call the most illustrious and at the same time most powerful politician Utah ever produced. The rise of Smoot caused extensive consequences in his home state, and this thesis is written in an attempt to clarify one of those consequences, the organization of the American political party. |
