Sonora Run

Sonora Run is a 7 minute work for orchestra dedicated to the memory of the Chilean writer Roberto Bolaño. Although his novels take the reader all over the world, the Mexican state of Sonora and the Sonoran desert play a central role in several of his works, including his acclaimed major works, The Savage Detectives and 2666. The title "Sonora Run" refers to the final section of The Savage Detectives, in which the main characters are both searching for a poet and running away from a pimp. The Sonoran border culture is portrayed in the work through jazzy "North American" sections in four-four time which alternate with folk-like "Latin American" sections in six eight time.
