Box 5, Monument Valley, utah 84536 Tel. 80ll-727-3291 ~1essages Nos 1-25 available on request just ask! Worse and worse! This semi-annual i s almost becoming an annual! But - - you know how busy we've been! Again, it's not quite a year since Message #25 went out. We start by extending thanks to all who have sent us help since the last Message went to press ' both to those who sent funds and to those who sent things -- and not least to those who~ent us their good wishes and assured us of their constant prayers for us. can you remember the days "way back when", when talking about the weather was something to do when conversation lagged, or maybe a change of subject was needed? In this desert country the weather is either a good friend - or an emeny. This past winter (I hope it is past - a couple of days in May we had snow, and after that hail!) has been a subject to write and to talk about - letters from allover the country -- at least, those parts above the Mason-Dixon line, plus a few below it -- have told of being snowed in -- voads closed, &c. We had our share, but I spare you more on the subject! There was some suffering among the People who still rely on fire-wood, and those who are using LP gas -- the man who brings it in couldn;t get his truck over the roads; fortunately, we have a very large tank, which relieved us of much discomfort, and we could help others. Most of you, I hope, have heard about our new status in the Church . Formerly, the Navajos in Arizona. and in New Mexico were in the dioceses of those States, as we were in utah -- our bishop being about 400 miles f rom us! Now a new jurisdiction has been created, which puts all the Navajo Episcopal missions into a single diocese - - or rather, an "Area Mission", and we have our own bishop, standing committee, diocesan conventions, &e . Bishop Putnam is "on loan" from Oklahoma (the former Indian Territory), but as he and his wife have now moved into their new home in Farmington, N.M., we think we can look forward to his being with us as our chief pastor for several years at least. We certainly hope so, as he has many fine plans for furthering the involvement of Navajos in the life of their church. Those desiring more news of the activities of the EpiscoJ;El.I Church in Navajoland can get the news vehicle, "NAVAJOLAND", just by writing to: The Development Officer, San Juan Mission, Box 720, Farmi ngton, N.M. 87401.: No price l isted, but offerings gratefully accepted. For those who did not receive a copy of the last issue of NAVAJOUU~D, there appeared in i t an item that may interest you -- to the effect that one of us four here has a new name! I1rs Eskell is now Mrs H. B. Liebler, giving to Father Liebler's 11 grandchildren a new grandma! This happened at Moab, Utah, on October 27, 1978~ |
