Show , , , #26-2 In our last issue we told about the installation of Father Titus a t St Christopher's Mission in Bluff; alas, we have to report that he is going back to Alaska. He will be greatly missed; however, it is our understanding that, by the time you read this Message, Father Dan Treece, presently in Evergreen, Colo., will have arrived to take over the ministry at St Christopher's. Please keep him in your prayers. Also, we regret to state that Father Henry Bird is leaving San Juan Mission at Farmington, N.M. He has done a wonderful job there, but his bishop needs him in another missi on in the Diocese of Rio Grande. We hope that very soon Bishop Putnam will be able to announce the name of his successor; also a new priest here at St Mary of the Moonlight . • The organization of the 1979 Episcopal Church in Navajoland Convocation, to be held he,re July .13, 14, 15, is now underway, and we look forward to a busy and historic weekend. Historic because the Navajos themselves are organizing it and running it under the supervision and guidance of their, and our, own Bishop .Please keep this Convocation in your prayers. - - --- -----00000000000----------- BROTHER JUNIPER'S TwO CENTS ' WORTH OF WASHERS , TRIPS , TUMBLES AND SHADES ..... The washhouse has been in operation now for several months, with one or more machines down for repairs. The water heater failed, and it was a long time before we could get it repaired, but even that did not discourage the people f~m either doing. their laundry or taking showers. The bushes and the fences are becoming colorful sights as the women spread out their blankets and clothing to dry - using solar energy! For many years I have been a member of the San Juan County Travel Council; one of the duties of the Council is to promote better roads into the area. The first of the year I was elected Chairman, which wouldn't take much time; only a couple of meetings a month. But the first of February the Director resigned, which would not have effected me directly, again BUT, we had scheduled a booth at a Travel Show in Phoenix, and without a director we had to send someone else - and guess who had to go! The next to the last night of the show I was returning from dinner and I mistook a short flight of steps for a ramp and took a tumble, tearing the ligaments in my knee. This laid me up for several weeks, so 1 couldn't do very much. As you have read above, the 1979 Convocation of the Episcopal Church in Navajoland is to be held here in July. As there is no building large enough to accommodate the large crowd that is expected, the Commi ttee was here making plans recently. They are going to put up a big cook "shade" , and are trying to acquire a big meeting tent. They expect several hundred people for the 3-day event in July. I should say that those who want all t he hook-u.ps for camping can find them at Gouldings KOA about five miles away. But better reserve soon, if you want to attend the meeting . -------- --000000000---------- AND NOW HELEN'S "WORDS TO THE WISE" ..... 1 have had to go "back East" for several busy weeks this year, to help my niece and her husband settle matters in connection with my late brother Henry's estate. The East was a gloriOUS burst of flowers and blossoming |
